Hello there, in this week post we are going to do a spring suitcase purse/clutch so our little darlings, have a place to put their pretty little treasures when they are out and about. My daughters love to bring little toys or booklets with crayons when we go out.
So this is perfect to store little things!
I thought it would be great if I could find something more sturdy that just a purse, so when I saw this cardboard miniature suitcases, I had a light bulb moment.
These mini suitcases are meant for doing paper mache or decoupage as well. So you can use different ways of decorating them.
Spring suitcase clutch
For this crafty project you are going to need:
- Cardboard suitcases
- Washi tape
- Variety of construction paper
- Glue and scissors
- And ribbon for the handle
The first thing we are going to do is to linen the inside of the mini suitcases with felt. Measure the inside and cut 2 rectangles one for each side. You can any colourful fabric you have that you have around instead of felt.
Now we start decorating the outside, so take washi tape in your prefer colour and cover the lines simulating straps on the mini suitcase. I opted for a burnt yellow. We repeat on both sides.
Than with a different colour of washi, we cover the corners in each side of the mini suit case. If you look at vintage suitcases sometimes they have a metal cover on the corner, so we want to recreate that look for ours.
Tip: These mini suitcases have little bumps that simulate these corners, we just have to cover them with washi or you can use acrylic paint as well. Just need to wait for the pain to dry completely.
The next step is to make the paper flowers to decorate the centre of our mini suitcases, so I just upload a short video to show you how to make these.

So there you have it, once you have your paper flowers ready you just need to glue them on a side of the paper mache suitcase. I used Modpodge, but you can use any white glue that will dry transparent or a glue gun.
For the final touch of our spring mini clutch, I added a satin ribbon on the handle so the girls can carry it as a mini purse.
How easy was that? And they look adorable!
